Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao or Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao Suchadaram, is located in Wiang Nuea Sub-district, Mueang Lampang District, Lampang. Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao is an ancient and beautiful temple which is thousands of years old, and it used to be the enshrined place of Phra Phuttha Maha Mani Rattana Patimakorn (Emerald Buddha) since 1979 for 32 years. The reason why Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao is named Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao: There is a legend that Ms. Suchada found the emerald glass in the watermelon (Northern dialect called as Mak Tao), and she brought it to the abbot to carve into a Buddha image which is Phra Kaeo Don Tao. Later, it was brought to be enshrined at Wat Phra That Lampang Luang to this day. Important places in Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao include: Big pagoda which contains the hair relics of the Buddha The beautiful Burmese art Mondop that enshrines a large Buddha image The viharn which houses the reclining Buddha is as old as this temple. There is also a Viharn Luang and the Lanna Museum. How to get to Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao: Cross the Ratchadaphisek Bridge and turn right along Phra Kaeo Road for about 1 kilometer, to see the relics stand dominantly on the hill.
